Gates - 14 months

This sweet baby boy is 14 months old!

Time is flying by, but we are having fun!  Gates went from walking to running quickly - probably to keep up with his brother!  He has a lot of energy and is always on the go.  He loves to eat and loves to sleep!  His blankie and paci are always near :)

His ear tubes seem to be working great!  There was drainage for a few days after the RSV episode, but other than that things have been perfect.

I just noticed some back molars coming in on both sides.  They seem to be causing him a lot of pain b/c he rubs his cheeks and has been really fussy.

Gates is still not talking, but he has started doing some fun tricks!

What Gates is doing at 14 months:

-You can point to your nose when asked "Where is your nose" or "Where is my nose?"
-When asked "What does the dog say" you "woof" like a dog….so cute
-You can almost blow a kiss…working on it!
-Wave bye bye
-You can say things like Dada or mama, but prefer to just grunt and point your finger at what you want.  You are definitely communicating more, but just not using your words!  Hopefully that will come soon.
-As I said, you LOVE your blankie and paci.  You used to just love them mainly in your crib, but now you want them with you all the time!
-Your other love is your bottle.  I was so strict with Hawkins making him give it up right at one year, but I am a push over with you.  You still take 3 bottles a day!  You just love it and I can't take it from you!
-You wake up around 7 or 7:30am, nap at 9:30 for an hour or so, nap again around 2pm for (hopefully) 2+ hours and then back to bed around 7:30 or 8pm.
-Hawkins dropped his morning nap at 14 months, but you definitely still need it.  You have always been a better napper than Hawkins was.  You have definitely shortened your morning nap though.  You sleep for about an hour and then wake up or I will wake you up or else you won't take a good afternoon nap.

You are a much better eater than Hawkins, but still a little picky.  You like waffles, blueberries, hotdogs, cheese quesadillas, chicken, LOVE ham, and peas.  You aren't afraid to put something in your mouth, but if it's a funny texture you will spit it right out!  You would really love to just get your calories from milk!

Gates, you are so sweet and a joy to our lives.  It is so fun to see you grow and learn each day.

Raybon Family Thanksgiving 2013

I have to start this post with this beautiful tree in my yard.  When I returned home from Thanksgiving the beautiful leaves where sprinkled on the ground, so I'm so glad I snapped this pic the week before.

Robbie's parents rented a house in Isle of Palms for their extended family for the whole week of Thanksgiving.  We headed there last Sunday.   We actually went the whole 5.5 hours without stopping…don't ask me how that happened.  This poor baby had reached the end of his sweetness by the time we arrived though.  He was his worst day of RSV and did not feel well.  He repaid us by staying up all night and sleeping in my arms.

In attendance were Robbie's parents, his sister, Kristen and her husband, Adam, Robbie's Uncle Simms and his daughter, Sarah (Hawkins' new best friend), cousin Chrissa, her husband Chad and children Madaline and Hayes, Aunt Pat, Cousin John Henry, wife Gray and FIVE, yes five boys.  It was a FULL house.

Hawkins enjoyed sleeping in the bunk beds!

Gates is ONE!

On November 7th, one year ago Robbie and I went to the hospital to have our sweet baby Gates!

Benjamin Gatewood Raybon was born November 7th at 1:21pm.  8 pounds 6 ounces and healthy!  He looked just like Robbie - dark hair and same face!

Our lives were very different than when we brought Hawkins home from the hospital since we lived with your Honey and Big Daddy!  It turned out the be wonderful because Mommy needed help with two babies!

I'll be honest and say the first 3 or 4 months were rough.  Gates had terrible reflux, which was not diagnosed until 3 months old, so there was alot of crying in the first few months :)  Then came the ear infections one after another, which was the cause of Gates not sleeping through the night until 7 months old...but we survived!  Finally after 7 months the ear infections stopped and Gates settled down and became an excellent sleeper.

We moved into our new house in Albany when he was 5 months old, and he finally got his own room!  Gates, you are such a sweet and easy going baby.  We are always on the go - running errands or picking up Hawkins and you just ride in the car with a big smile on your face.

You were right on time (and sometimes early) with all of your milestones - sitting up at 6 months, crawling at 8 months, pulling up at 9 months and walking at 11 months!  I think you want to be at the same pace as your brother, so you were quick to walk - and you are strong!

You started out a great eater around 7 or 8 months, but now you are picky just like your brother.  Grilled cheese and quesidillas all around!

Gates, you are ONE YEAR OLD!  Here is what you are up to:

-You sleep 8pm-7am - give or take.  You still take 2 naps around 9:30am and 2pm.  You love to sleep.

-You are SO sweet and easy to put to bed.  You still love your bottle - you take 8oz and then take your blankie and paci and practically jump in your crib.  No rocking to sleep for you.

-Words cannot describe how much you love your blankie.  Actually, it does not have to be a specific one.  You have 3 big Little Giraffe ones and 3 or 4 little ones and you love each one equally :)  I always have one big and one little one in your crib.  Most of the time we leave them in your crib, but sometimes you just have to take it with you.  If a blankie is laying on the floor you just dive right into it - it's the cutest thing!

-You love to smell the flowers (just like your brother did at this age)

-You started walking around 11 months old and never stopped!

-You wear mostly 18 months clothes, but maybe a few 12 month ones.

-You weigh 25 lbs

-You got ear tubes the week after you turned one.  So far they are working great!

-Hawkins just gave you RSV :(  He was able to get by with a bad cough because he is older, but it really hit you hard.  It was awful.  One night we had to do multiple breathing treatments in one night b/c you just could not breathe.

Gates, you are such a happy smiley lovable baby.  You smile constantly and brighten everyone's day.  We love you so much!
